The twentieth-century crisis of western culture

“An Analytic Perspective on Panpsychism”: Book Review of Brüntrip & Jaskolla’s (eds.) *Panpsychism: Contemporary Perspectives*

2017

This is an important collection in that it fleshes out the vague postulate of panpsychism with a detailed analysis of how it might be understood (if not exactly what it might mean). For the many skeptics who simply dismiss the very idea as ridiculous, there is much here to demonstrate that a good deal of serious thought has gone into this ancient proposal. There are many ways to interpret panpsychism, and they are well represented in this group of philosophers, each speaking for a unique take on the subject or one of its variations – from cosmopsychism to panprotopsychism to panexperientialism to neutral monism, etc. The combination problem is fully interrogated, as is panpsychism associate…

G. W. F. Hegel’s Understanding of the Absolute: A Non-metaphysical Interpretation

G. W. F. Hegel is usually regarded as a/the metaphysician par excellence. However, his thought is multi-faceted and its overarching metaphysical scheme can be viewed as self-deconstructive and containing many elements that represent a non-metaphysical philosophical-epistemological stance. This paper will explore the possibilities of self-overcoming of Hegel’s metaphysics with reference to his understanding of the concept of the absolute as expounded in the Phenomenology of Spirit, especially the Preface. The paper is composed of two main sections from the ontological and epistemological perspectives respectively. The first section deals with Hegel’s groundbreaking understanding of the absol…

Rudolf Steiner. On mathematics and Reality

We consider philosopher and mystic Rudolf Steiner as a searcher after new scientific paradigm who wants to put in the ground of his system mathematics and mathematical thinking, remaining by this in the position of occultism. In the article we want to enlighten in which sense he is using term “mathematics”, what he understands by it, and how he sees its connection with reality. We consider an example how Steinerian idea could possibly be connected with Feynman’s quantum mechanical interpretation. We are coming to the conclusion that contemporary science and theoretical physicists particularly should turn more attention to Rudolf Steiner as a natural scientist in its own sense.

About the role of Galois groups in TGD framework

2021

This article was inspired by the inverse problem of Galois theory. Galois groups are realized as number theoretic symmetry groups realized physically in TGD a symmetries of space-time surfaces. Galois confinement is as analog of color confinement is proposed in TGD inspired quantum biology. Two instances of the inverse Galois problem, which are especially interesting in TGD, are following: Q1: Can a given finite group appear as Galois group over Q? The answer is not known. Q2: Can a given finite group G appear as a Galois group over some EQ? Answer to Q2 is positive as will be found and the extensions for a given G can be explicitly constructed.
